Have a wonderful winter break Spartans! I hope that you are able to relax (with a good book) and enjoy your time off! See you in the New Year!
This one seems to be a bit underrated. There isn’t too much chatter about it in the bookstagram world or by YA Vloggers but don’t let that stop you from picking it up. If you are looking for a page turning mystery with a SHOCKING twist, then this is your next read.
Esther Ann Hicks—Essie—is the youngest child on Six for Hicks, a reality television phenomenon. She’s grown up in the spotlight, both idolized and despised for her family’s fire-and-brimstone brand of faith. When Essie’s mother, Celia, discovers that Essie is pregnant, she arranges an emergency meeting with the show’s producers: Do they sneak Essie out of the country for an abortion? Do they pass the child off as Celia’s? Or do they try to arrange a marriage—and a ratings-blockbuster wedding? Meanwhile, Essie is quietly pairing herself up with Roarke Richards, a senior at her school with a secret of his own to protect. As the newly formed couple attempt to sell their fabricated love story to the media—through exclusive interviews with an infamously conservative reporter named Liberty Bell—Essie finds she has questions of her own: What was the real reason for her older sister leaving home? Who can she trust with the truth about her family? And how much is she willing to sacrifice to win her own freedom? (Goodreads)
The Graphic Novel display is now up. Come check it out. There is everything from superheroes to Shakespeare. If you aren’t able to come into the library or see something that you want to place on hold. Check out this video of how to view the displays online through Destiny Discover Collections! All the displays from the year will be kept in collections so you will always have access to them 🙂 Happy Reading Spartans!!!
If either you or your sibling will be returning to classes for help with your online learning in June, please return your library books while you are there. A bin will be places outside the library to minimize contact. Please just leave the books in the bin. THANK YOU!!!
You do NOT have to come to school only to return library books. This is ONLY IF YOU ARE THERE ALREADY.
The LLC has undergone a MAJOR makeover ‼️
This fresh new space is waiting for your return… hopefully sooner rather than later. I wish I was able to show you around in person but for now the pictures will have to do.
There is now a designated set of tables for when classes come in, comfy cafe style seating for study block, large tables for group work, and beautiful new shelving to display the fiction and graphic novels.
I can’t wait to see all the amazing learning that will happen once we are back in the building 💜
Surrey Teens Read Voting is open now until May 15. Click on the link to place your vote. https://bit.ly/2KfLjq2
You can also visit the website to vote https://surreyteensread.weebly.com/voting.html
Remember you did not have to read all 10 books in order to vote. Even if you read 1 and loved it still vote!
If you are still hoping to read a few they are all available as Ebooks through the library website. See the tab “How to Read Ebooks” for more information.
I hope that you all enjoyed this year’s selection! I’m so sad that I don’t get to visit your classes and talk about these books with you in person, but we are working on the list for next year and so far there are some GREAT reads. Stay tuned.
Welcome back Spartans. I hope that you all were able to spend time with your families over the break and are staying home and safe. As we start this new adventure into online learning there is a couple of things that you need to know:
First— DO NOT WORRY! This is new for everyone and everything will be worked out in time. At some point this week you will be hearing from your teachers.
Second— Make sure you are able to get onto your Office 365 account and are familiar with Teams. If you type sd36.ca/o into your browser it will take you directly to the Office 365 page.
If you do not know your Surrey Schools login (this is the same one that you use to get onto the computers at school) then you will have to contact one of your teachers (emails are on the school website). They will be able to change it for you.
Third— if you are wanting to read, and I sure hope that you are, the library is here for you! There are plenty of ebooks that can be accessed through the catalog. There is a tab at the top of this page with all of the instructions. It is also on the Instagram account. @barnes.and.books Make sure you are following for school updates and announcements.
It is also possible to sign up for a Surrey Public Library card online, if you don’t already have one. They have a large collection of ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines.
Lastly— Please reach out if you need ANYTHING! You are not alone in this.
Stay inside and stay safe Spartans! 💛
